Hello friends! I’m back after a little much-needed time off, I am so thrilled to offer this month’s Zoom workshop offerings!
I’ve got some excellent workshops coming up this month (and early May) with some classic favorites: On the schedule are sessions for writing better service journalism, improving your pitches, writing a great personal essay, and a deep dive into how to build a longform narrative feature. Super exciting stuff!
The whole schedule is below, feel free to register for as many events as you’d like. (And remember, paid subscribers to this newsletter get 50% off all events. Click here for options to upgrade.)
I’d also love to hear what topics you’d like to see future workshops on! Email me ideas to tim@freelancingwithtim.com and put “Workshop ideas” in the subject line. Everything is on the table!
But before we get there: I'm putting together a database of rates freelancers have been paid recently. If you wanna throw in a rate or two you got recently, I would love for you to fill out this quick little survey! I'll publish a regularly updated database weekly so we can all get a little more insight into who pays what and what we should be asking for. Click here to share some rates!
Now, on to the Zoom workshops! (All times are Eastern.)
April 18 @ 4 p.m.: Pitch perfect: Everything to know about pitching stories. Join me for a deep dive on strengthening your pitches, structuring them effectively, finding the right places to pitch your stories, how to follow up with editors, and much more.
April 23 @ 4 p.m.: The art of structuring a longform feature. Join me as I lead a deconstruction exercise of a longform narrative feature and give you tips on how to use those tools in your writing.
April 30 @ 4 p.m.: How to write better personal essays. Not sure how to turn a personal story into an essay you can sell? Wondering how to structure a personal essay? How do you even pitch one? We’ll cover all those questions and more in this workshop.
May 9 @ 4 p.m.: What is service journalism, and how do I do it right? Service journalism is more important now than ever, and more publications are hungry for this type of reporting. Let’s get into the weeds about how to find, report, write, and pitch compelling, useful service stories!
Hope to see you in a workshop this month!

I’d love to sign up for the pitch perfect! Is there a code members need at checkout?
